Types of Roofing Slate

Being a natural product, different types of natural slate are defined by their place of origin.

PENRHYN slate originates in the area behind Bangor in North Wales Heather Blue Cambrian Conforms to clauses 6.2.1., 6.2.2. and 6.2.3. of BS680: Part 2: 1971
FFESTINIOG slate originates from the quarries in and around Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales. The quarry was closed in March 2010. Blue/Grey Ordovician Conforms to clauses 6.2.1., 6.2.2. and 6.2.3. of BS680: Part 2: 1971
WESTMORLAND slate originates in Cumbria (previously the County of Westmorland) Green Ordovician Conforms to clauses 6.2.1. and 6.2.2. of BS680: Part 2: 1971
BURLINGTON slate originates from Kirkby-in-Furness, Cumbria Blue/Grey Silurian Conforms to clauses 6.2.1. and 6.2.2. of BS680: Part 2: 1971
